How does Foil Printing Work?

At Lanes, we use a new technology for foil printing, called sleeking. Sleeking is a digital print finishing method that allows us to transfer an image that specifically bonds to digital inks, creating dynamic special effects and designs.

Sleeking creates a very similar look and feel to traditional foil printing; however, it is much easier to use and is cheaper to produce. Sleeking technology can create unique finishes including gloss and matte, a metallic background like gold and silver and simply stunning holographic impressions. Ultimately, your wedding stationery, menus, certificates and greeting card designs can be taken to a whole new level.

Sleeking is a very simple process, meaning we can create digital prints that make a huge impact at a fraction of the cost of traditional foiling methods. Sleeking also allows us to create small and large jobs with ease, meaning there is no need for minimum order quantities. Traditional block foiling meant that personalisation was often expensive, but sleeking allows our creativity to take control and gives designs the wow-factor.

How does Sleeking work?

The digital foil used in sleeking adheres to the digital dry toner in the ink. If you print a full page in ink, you will get a solid foiled print. If you print out text, the foil will adhere to the text. Sleeking means there is no need for specialty UV finishing methods and it also doesn’t need laminating!
