However, many organisations and individuals have seen this change in people’s day-to-day lives as an opportunity to launch a new product or service. Develop your brand identity

First of all, you need to decide on a company name. Once you’ve got a shortlist, and before you get your heart set on one, you need to do your research:

  • Is there a registered limited company with that name already?
  • Are there social media platforms available with the obvious handle available?
  • Do some online research, make sure there isn’t another company out there with a similar name which has a bad reputation
  • Consult other people - what may seem like a clever name to you can sometimes turn out to have negative connotations for others

Packaging

If you have a physical product, you will need to think about how this will be presented to your prospective customers. Whether you are planning on keeping your business online, and therefore relying on the first impression of your product to be when it’s unwrapped, or you are relying on people purchasing your product from physical shops, the packaging needs to do the product justice.

Print marketing

Yes, it’s the 21st century, but don’t underestimate the power of print!

Even if you don’t have a physical product, a great personal touch is to still send something physical in the post for your new customers, such as a welcome pack. Similarly, if you are offering an online subscription service to your customers, we do recommend regularly sending them printed materials, such as a newsletter or updated brochures - this can also be a great opportunity for upselling other products or services.
